Back Again - With a Plan!

Hi, I am back in Arusha, Tanzania. After 14 months of trying to raise funds, I have to admit defeat! The world seems to me to be struggling each day - wars, famine, natural disasters - there are so many needy people! I have tried many, many Philanthropists with little success. Perhaps it is because I am a "one-man band" and not high-profile - so who will believe in me?
We need to move the school out of its rented premises now (they are shocking in so many ways) and build the new school for them, so my husband and I have decided to fund "Phase 1" of the project ourselves. We need to provide 4 classrooms, a laboratory, a teachers’ office, a kitchen, and dormitories for 200 students to meet the required Education Department regulations . There will also be many extras - a guard hut, proper road access to the site, fencing, water tanks, furniture, a small bus, and other things that we have not even thought about yet.
Moving them will remove the burden of paying rent and will allow them to gradually build the extra facilities they will need over time - a dining/school hall, another classroom, a library for the 200+ books we have provided, and another laboratory. It will also enable them to pay the staff wages and a pension, equivalent to the rates being paid to teachers in government schools.
The school is an NGO, can never be sold and can only be used for educational purposes. We are currently working on the building plans - trying to cut costs where we can - and we are reviewing their audited accounts for the last few years, which we will continue to do in the future.
Home for the Heroes is a registered charity in Australia, so any donations can be tax deductible to donors, and you will receive the appropriate receipt if a donation is made. Please, any amount would be gratefully received. What we are doing is with the greatest respect for those that I have been volunteering with since 2022, and will enable 50-60 students a year to graduate with a quality education and be eligible for Government Colleges and Universities. Thanks for sharing my journey, Jo.
