All that preparation work - marking out, timber framing and trench digging - results in brick foundations for the buildings. Suddenly it's even more tangible!
Next step then is filling in the foundation structures with soil and gravel.
Then come the water trucks - the water is used as the initial method of compaction.
After that comes mechanical compaction. They are big areas to do!
And our project is still benefitting the local Masai people. Every activity that is taking place is painstakingly hard physical labour. These early stages have all been done by hand and take a lot of effort!
Following the compacting, there is a bit more gravel, then plastic and finally the concrete floors are laid. And even though the whole process has been completed by hand, there are smooth and level floors ready for framing and roofing. We are impressed by what they have been able to achieve!
